Y, casualmente, el interés en todo el mundo no ha parado de crecer. Desde 2012 aproximadamente hay una súper explosión de compositores, algunos bastante conocidos, interesados en este instrumento. He, a classically trained musician and professor at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Valencia, enjoys the limitations imposed by these small instruments, which do not usually exceed 50 centimeters wide or have a range of more than three octaves. For eight years, Trescolí has dedicated his creative career to dignifying the toy piano. He does this in two ways: by cataloging and performing the repertoire composed for this instrument in the past, and by composing original pieces himself. His latest contribution is a four-song EP -A: Toy- published a few weeks ago in digital format.

“It all started as an escape valve,” explains Trescolí. I was in Amsterdam, studying a master's degree and trying very hard. In those places it is studied with great intensity and with a lot of projection. But, at a certain point, I realized that I needed some air. I told myself I needed to do new things. In 2010 I bought a toy piano, and a spark arose. I was surprised to see that more things could be done than I thought. I started to investigate and discovered that, in addition, at that time there were quite a few musicians in the world composing works for that instrument. Once I returned to Spain, I enrolled in a master's degree at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. I dedicated the research work to the study of the history, interpretation and repertoire of the toy piano. I compiled everything that had been written up to that point. And, coincidentally, interest around the world has not stopped growing. Since approximately 2012 there has been a super explosion of composers, some quite well-known, interested in this instrument. Of course, not everything that appears is good, but many things are.”
What is the reason for this fascination? “With a large piano you can do whatever you want, but it is an instrument with so much historical baggage that in some ways it is daring to think that you can contribute something new from the point of view of composition. However, the ability to play with the limitations of a toy piano opens a window to a new world. The challenge is to squeeze its full potential. And I assure you that people who attend a toy piano concert for the first time are amazed by all the sounds that come out of something so small. It is also very versatile; for example, it is very easy to modulate electronically. For me, its main contribution is the impact it has both visually and auditorily. It is a small sound sculpture, which always opens doors to the unexpected.”

Seguir leyendoA pobres herramientas, grandes habilidades

[25
22
post-5649","featured-content","type-featured-content","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","featured-content-type-music","featured-content-tag-festival
["GET
